About the Event
This presentation will address the rights-based approach to advocacy and look at some of the problems and limits with using this strategy in trying to procure the good things of life for people being advocated for. It will contrast a rights-based approach with other strategies that rely more on appeals to shared values, on invoking interpersonal identification with the parties being advocated for, and on using the most informal avenues available to attain the desired end.
- Susan Thomas is Training Coordinator of the Syracuse University Training Institute for Human Service Planning, Leadership, and Change Agentry. She worked for many years with Dr. Wolf Wolfensberger, the founder of Citizen Advocacy in North America.
* Note - Susan will be joining us by phone and will not be visible to participants.
